Responsible by design

Our supercapacitors are developed not only for performance, but with a clear sense of responsibility – minimizing environmental impact from raw material sourcing to end of life. The S-Power series embodies this approach through bio-based and non-toxic materials, low-carbon production, and verified circularity. Unlike traditional supercapacitors or batteries that rely on heavy metals and PFAS, S-Power uses renewable carbon, paper separators, and an organic electrolyte.

Each unit is manufactured in Sweden using clean energy and resource-efficient processes, resulting in a low carbon footprint. At the end of its life, the device can be safely recycled or recovered without releasing harmful substances – an important factor for small electronic components where end-of-life handling depends on individual behaviour and local systems. This combination of innovation and transparency makes S-Power one of the most sustainable supercapacitors in the world, proving that performance and responsibility can go hand in hand.

Powered by purpose

At Ligna Energy, sustainability is more than a goal – it’s the reason we exist. Inspired by nature and rooted in science, we develop supercapacitors built from renewable and non-toxic materials, offering a safer and more responsible way to store energy.

Our journey began with a vision to power electronics in harmony with the planet. By replacing harmful substances and reducing dependency on finite resources, we are helping to shape a cleaner, circular future for the electronics industry. From our home in Sweden, we combine innovation, transparency, and care for the environment. Proving that technology and sustainability can grow together.

Made in Sweden

At Ligna Energy, responsible production is at the heart of how we turn innovation into reality. Every supercapacitor is manufactured in Sweden, where clean energy, resource efficiency, and traceability form the foundation of our process.

Our production line is designed to minimize waste and energy use through automation and continuous optimization. By locating our operations close to our development team, we maintain full control over quality, safety, and environmental performance – from prototype to mass production.

Each S-Power unit has been verified through a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), confirming a low carbon footprint, CO₂e, per unit (modules A1–A3). These third-party-verified results reflect our commitment to transparent reporting and measurable impact.

Responsible production also means planning for what happens next. We design our products for safe and efficient recovery, enabling circular material flows and reducing the need for virgin resources. By combining automation, Swedish energy mixes, and circular thinking, we ensure that sustainability is not a side effect – it’s built into every step.

Future goals & roadmap

We’re building on our verified results with clear goals for the years ahead:

  • Increase renewable input materials in every new product generation.
  • Reduce the carbon footprint per unit through cleaner energy and process improvements.
  • Support a shift from batteries to sustainable energy storage across the IoT industry.

Step by step, we’re moving toward a future where sustainable energy storage is the default – not the exception.

FAQ

What is the carbon footprint of an S-Power supercapacitor?2025-10-21T15:29:41+02:00

Each S-Power unit has a carbon footprint of just 12.7 grams CO₂e. This low value includes all emissions from raw materials, manufacturing, and packaging (modules A1–A3), making S-Power one of the lowest-impact energy storage components in its class.

How is your environmental impact verified?2025-10-21T15:31:01+02:00

All sustainability data is third-party verified through a certified EPD and based on a complete Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) — covering the full product journey from raw material sourcing to end of life. In accordance with EN 15804 + A2 and ISO 14025.

Why are S-Power supercapacitors more sustainable than batteries?2025-10-21T15:31:21+02:00

Unlike batteries, which rely on chemical reactions and often contain metals or PFAS, S-Power supercapacitors store energy electrostatically. They are non-toxic, recyclable, and have a much lower carbon footprint, offering a safer and longer-lasting energy storage option for wireless electronics.

What happens at the end of life?2025-10-21T15:31:57+02:00

S-Power units are designed for safe recycling and energy recovery. Around 78.5 % of materials are recovered through standard European recycling processes, and the rest can be safely managed without releasing harmful substances. The composition of the component ensures minimised environmental impact even if the small object is discarded in the wrong bin.
